A walk in the woods

I had the chance to take  a walk the other day and want to share with you how beneficial it can be to enjoy one yourself.

The day started with a million things on my mind and I knew that a walk in the woods would be what I needed to clear things up and refocus. The added bonus was that it was snowing!

For me, walking is more then just a physical exercise, especially when it is done in nature. Walks through the woods help me to refocus and clear the mental chatter that all of us know bogs us down. Walking is also an activity that promotes cardiovascular health and combats depression with as little as one half hour per day at five days per week.

Its amazing the little pieces of wilderness that can be found in suburbia! Here is the stream I was faced with crossing. Not exactly Bear Grylls (http://www.youtube.com/beargryllsweb) but challenging none the less.

I did find a log jam that I was able to cross but not without crashing through it and getting my feet wet.

The journey through this suburbian winter forest lasted a few hours and provided the diversion I needed and grounded me so that I could recharge and refocus for the tasks that I needed to get done. Along the way much inspiration bubbled to the surface and inspired me. That is why walking for me is both a spiritual and physical exercise.

Your walking regimen doesn't have to be as rugged as this but any walking out in nature will have beneficial effects beyond the physical. Enjoy your walk!
